Press release: International Event for CHAMP-ION Pilot Line Brings Together Key Players in Quantum Technologies

CHAMP-ION brings quantum chips from lab to factory

CHAMP-ION (Championing European Ion-Trap Quantum Technologies), a €50M European pilot line turning ion-trap quantum technologies into manufacturable, scalable hardware, held its international opening event in Villach, Austria bringing together project partners and leading stakeholders from across the European hashtag#quantum technologies ecosystem.

The ceremony was opened by Petra Oberrauner member of the Austrian National Council, followed by a welcome address from Peter Hanke Austrian Federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure who said: "With CHAMP-ION, Europe is demonstrating that when it comes to key technologies like quantum computing, our ambitions go beyond scientific leadership - we are actively building industrial value creation right here in Europe…”

And this is exactly what CHAMP-ION stands for.
CHAMP-ION brings together 21 partners across Europe to build the missing bridge between quantum research and real-world production. It is coordinated by Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) and supported by European Union’s Chips Joint Undertaking and the National Public Authorities of the partners involved in the Framework Partnership Agreement Grant No. 101233101 and Specific Grant Agreement 1 Grant No.101288915.

The programme also brought together key figures from across the quantum landscape, enabling rich exchanges of ideas, including Christina Hirschl, Michael Wiesmüller, Sabine E. Herlitschka, Mohssen Moridi, Olivier Ezratty, Thomas Monz, Jean-Christophe ELOY, Klaus Grössinger and Sarah Hedden. Throughout the day, Isabella Preuer hosted and guided attendees through the program.
